Accessibility Statement

Last updated: February 2026

Our commitment

People managing diabetes, kidney disease, and hypertension are disproportionately likely to use a screen reader, magnification, or keyboard-only navigation. Accessibility is therefore a clinical requirement here, not a courtesy. We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

Conformance status

Partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means most of the app meets the standard, but some content does not yet. We state this plainly rather than claiming full conformance we have not independently verified. No third-party accessibility audit has been performed to date.

What we have addressed

  • Text and interface colors meet AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
  • Icon-only controls, including meal swap, close, and sync buttons, carry descriptive labels for screen readers.
  • All interactive elements are reachable and operable with a keyboard alone.
  • Each page has one main landmark, one page heading, and a heading structure that does not skip levels.
  • Every meaningful image has alternative text; decorative images are hidden.
  • Status messages, such as allergen filtering results, are announced to assistive technology.
  • Information is never conveyed by color alone; allergen and clinical warnings include text.
  • Layouts reflow to 320px width and to mobile viewport height without loss of content.
  • Every chart on the enterprise and clinician views has a "View as table" alternative presenting the same figures as a real data table; the graphics themselves are hidden from assistive technology so the numbers are read once, not twice.

Known limitations

  • Generated meal photography carries a descriptive name rather than a detailed description of the plated dish.
  • Some third-party components, including the payment checkout, are outside our direct control.

Report a barrier

If any part of this app blocks you, tell us and we will fix it. Email hello@rootandfork.app with the page and what happened. We aim to respond within five business days and will offer the information or function through another channel while we work on a fix.

Assessment approach

This statement is based on self-evaluation: manual keyboard and screen-reader testing plus automated checks during development. We will update it as gaps close or new ones are found.
